Year 2 2022-2023

With Mrs Fowler, Mrs Taylor, Mrs Quinn, Miss Bibby, Mrs Quraishi, Miss Murray and Mr Russell

We are so proud of all the children for how they have settled into year 2. We look forward to teaching you this year.

Please check on V School and children's reading records for any new home learning or links to online learning. It is very important that children continue their learning at home by practising skills that they are learning in school.

Please send children's work to the following email address

yeartwo@haslingden-pri.lancs.sch.uk

A member of the Year 2 team will reply. We will be checking this address at least once a week.

Thank you so much to parents who have sent emails in. Children love to share achievements with their class.

Thank you.

home learning expectations

Reading

It is so important that you read a little every day. There are so many children who have come back to school excited about what they are reading and wanting to change their reading book or tell us about new books you are reading. This is brilliant to hear. Please remember to sign reading records whenever children have read at home - whatever they have read.

ONLINE GAMES

This half term children should be accessing:-

Spelling Shed

NumBots

TT Rockstars - coming soon!

NumberGym

Children practise using these games in school and need to practise at least 3 times a week at home. This is so important for building fluency in their spelling and number skills.

Reading

Please make sure that a grown up signs your reading record so that you can get Dojos!

Remember this could be:

  • your school reading book, which we check is the right level that you can read most of the words in.

  • a bedtime story that is read to you and maybe you join in with some parts

  • a book of your own that you are reading at home or your library book

  • a magazine or children's newspaper

  • an online book like those on Oxford Owl

Reading comprehension

There are some 60 second reads - reading comprehensions - in the shared folder and some children will be receiving paper copies of these as well. Others will take home their RWI book to read.

Maths - Addition and Subtraction

In the Maths file at the bottom of this page there are some Parent booklets for Place Value and Addition and Subtraction. The Year 1 work books are in here as well as the Year 2 workbooks.

Please also continue to practise counting in 2s, 5s, 10s.

Continue to log onto Numbots and Numbergym to help with your fluency in Maths - your speed in answering questions will help you all the way through school.

spelling and writing

Spelling Shed - this will have on it words that you need to be able to spell correctly by the end of Year 2. It is great for your confidence if you know these words and can spell them so please practise and enjoy the games.

RWInc Spellings - You will have spellings stuck in your book that are given and tested each Friday. These are linked to the sounds that you are learning and the book you are reading.

Speaking and listening

Ask your child about their day and remind them to speak in full sentences and can they use the word "because" in their sentence?

Remember to be very clear when you give instructions.

Additional tasks that help to support your learning and happiness
