In maths, we will continue to explore addition and subtraction.
We can already recognise the parts and wholes to a part-whole model. (part + part = whole)
We will be working with numbers up to 20 so please continue to encourage number recognition when you are out and about within the environment e.g. door numbers, birth dates, numbers on the clock etc

30.1.23
Have a great half term break everyone. I hope you all have a good rest ready for the next term. If you would like to complete some home-learning tasks, there are updated Spelling Shed tasks uploaded for you. Some children still need to consolidate numbers to 10. This means recognising the digits within the environment or on a number line and being able to write the digit when asked. Those children confident with numbers to 10 need to move onto numbers up to 20.

Autumn TERM 2 11.11.22
The children have continued to enjoy reading and exploring the book 'Funny Bones' this week. We have been focusing on learning parts of the story through actions and hope to independently narrate and write the story next week. Here is the story:
Once upon a time 3 skeletons lived in a cellar,
a big skeleton, a little skeleton and a dog skeleton.
Late one night, the big skeleton decided to take the dog for a walk.
When they got to the park they went on the swings.
Then, they threw a stick for the dog.
Suddenly, the dog hit a tree and broke his bones.
After that, the skeletons put the dog back together.
But, they got it all wrong!
So, they tried again.
Finally, the dog was back together again.
In maths we have been focusing on counting back from 10. If you wish to recap on the learning we have done this week, you could watch the following video together. Y1 Autumn Block 1 TS8 Count backwards within 10 on Vimeo
Next week we will be looking at finding '1 less'.
All the children are working so hard during lessons. Thank you to all the parents and carers for your continuing support.

In maths this week we will be looking at counting objects to 5 or 10.
The one-to-one principle: Children assign one number name to each object that is being counted.
The stable-order principle: When counting, the numbers have to be said in a certain order.
The cardinal principle: The final object in a group is the total number of objects in that group.
In English we will be starting our new story Harry and his Bucketful of Dinosaurs. Why not have a go at some of the home-learning activities below if you have some spare time.
There will also be some frozen dinosaur eggs in the Beehive provision for the children to excavate this week!

Learning this week
In maths this week we have been looking at counting larger groups of objects. We have explored how to arrange objects into lines and put them in tens frames to help us count carefully.
We continue to use the 1-minute maths app daily to support our counting skills. If you haven't yet downloaded it at home I would strongly recommend you do.
In English we have continued to explore the book Harry and his Bucketful of Dinosaurs. This week we have concentrated on writing simple sentences about dinosaurs using the 'hold a sentence technique'.

Parents Evening
Please complete the form that has been sent home and return to the class teacher.
