Each week the children will bring home at least one new picture book, phonics flashcards, words or a reading book.

• Use a picture book at the beginning of your child's reading journey to establish a reading routine together. 

• Wordless books are an incredible opportunity to develop oracy skills and support literacy rich conversations.

•  Use the phonics flashcards to begin to identify the sounds to blend into simple words.

• Read together to develop accuracy.

Each week the children may bring home phonics flashcards, word cards or a phonics book linked to their phonics learning. 

• Ask them to identify sounds, blend them together and read words to become fluent and confident at each stage.

• Read the phonics book together, use this opportunity to expand children's vocabulary, and comprehension skills. 

 Children learn a lot from us reading to them. Let them enjoy listening to a story, take them to a magical place and let them use their imagination. 

• Use your story teller voice

• Act it out

• Re - tell the story 

• Enjoy an Audio Book together

• You can find plenty of audio books on youtube or cbeebies
